Sector performance vs FTSE 250
The FTSE 350 Travel & Leisure index is tracking below the FTSE 250 index and is still trading well below pre-coronavirus levels. Since the lifting of Covid restrictions recovery has been somewhat hampered. This is especially the case with airlines, which have been struggling to recruit staff and have had to cancel flights which is likely to have driven down performance. Easyjet, for example, has seen a 42% reduction in its share price since June 2019. Further disruption for air travel is expected during the summer months and Gatwick Airport has already asked flight operators to reduce daily flights by approximately 10% in order to be able to cope with airport capacity.
