Brian Stephenson is a family man who is a driven corporate leader in project/construction management, in that order.

Brian has a wife of 20 years; Maureen, a dedicated mother and high school food studies teacher. Sons Jake and Ryan are high school students, and youngest is Lola who is entering Jr High in the fall. Head of the household is Yogi the dog. A true Canadian family, all three kids are French immersion, although Brian and Maureen are Irish Ukrainian respectively. Family time is spent at their home in Edmonton or at the farm an hour East of Edmonton near Vegreville. Free time is spent enjoying sporting activities in all seasons, travelling, boating, camping, and fishing.

Brian learned the value of hard work and an entrepreneurial spirit early, working first in a family construction company at the age of eight until his early twenties. Brian studied telecommunications engineering and business in Edmonton and proceeded immediately to the UK where he worked for British Steel, North of London. Upon return to Canada Brian worked in fast paced environments successfully and methodically growing his technical expertise and leadership skills.

Brian’s professional career is diverse and includes operational and leadership roles at ATCO Electric, Stantec, Canadian Utilities, MacEwan University, and Telus. Prior to joining Avison Young, he founded JRL Development Corp., a commercial project and construction management firm servicing the Province of Alberta and the greater Edmonton area. JRL clients include the University of Alberta, Northern Lakes College, Arrow Engineering, and Chrysalis.

The scope of professional services he and his team provide on behalf of owners, investors and occupants include strategic capital and operational planning, documentation/approvals, procurement, change management, and execution/turnover activities related to greenfield and brownfield development/re-development, new building construction, building renovation, relocation and FF&E management, sustainability, and environmental remediation and hazardous material management. The team is flexible with the ability to provide exploratory consulting services by the hour, or initial development analysis, scheduling & costing based on simple facility and property feasibility studies, or complete A to Z management services from initiating and completing business cases and regulatory approvals, through to commissioning and turn over activities.

Mr. Stephenson delivers focused Consulting, Project and Construction Management Services by combining and aligning client corporate strategies and goals with annual real estate activities and business unit operational plans. Working together with the client and all Avison Young lines of business, the Project Management Team ensures success with achievable forecasting, concise execution, and ongoing long and short term portfolio and program performance review.
