Spanning 19,308 square feet on the seventh floor, Avison Young has delivered another successful project for EPIC Insurance and Brokers in Carmel, IN, 30 minutes north of Indianapolis, IN.
With an angular floorplate, this workplace design presented unique challenges that became opportunities for creativity. By strategically leaning into the building’s quirks, the Avison Young’s design team created a workspace that is functional, collaborative, and visually stunning.
One of the office’s standout features is its pantry with large windows framing picturesque views of the surrounding Carmel, Indiana neighborhoods. To further enhance this space, custom millwork seating pieces were added, encouraging employees to pause and enjoy the scenery.
In a new age of work, our team prioritized balancing the workspace’s layout, positioning employees’ workstations along the window lines while situating interior offices for hoteling purposes. This thoughtful approach ensured that both natural light and privacy were maximized, creating a harmonious working environment for all.
The office is not just about aesthetics; functionality plays a critical role. A dedicated training and conference wing demonstrates this balance beautifully. Designed for flexibility, the training room features adaptable furniture layouts, allowing the space to serve multiple purposes. The adjacency of the pantry and training area fosters seamless transitions between dining and learning for events and town hall meetings.
Throughout the office, the addition of varied focus rooms, huddle spaces, and collaborative areas underscores the client’s commitment to creating an environment that supports both individual and team productivity.
Collaboration was key to this project’s success. The design team worked closely with furniture vendor BFI, a KNOLL dealer, and IT vendor Plan B Technology Corp to deliver a turnkey solution. Past experiences with general contractors had taught the client to value due diligence and a clear project vision. From sharing 3D renderings to conducting thorough test fits, every step was planned meticulously. This effort paid off: the project was completed on budget with no change orders, a rarity in large-scale commercial builds. The synergy between the client and the design team ensured that every decision was aligned with the vision and standards from the outset.
This project exemplifies what can be achieved with an integrated methodology, shared vision and diligent planning, paving the way for continued success in future endeavors with EPIC.
