Commercial news from Israel - 30th September 2024
30 septembre 2024The strength of the chain is like the strength of the weakest link.
While corporate security systems focus on physical and cyber control, the danger can appear, and generally lies, in a narrow and unsupervised floor opening through which communication infrastructures pass, what is known as a shaft or floor communication cabinet.
Unauthorized access to this shaft could make it a critical point of weakness for the organization!
Hostile parties can take advantage of the free access to it to listen to optical fibers, intercept sensitive information such as emails, phone calls and commercial data, all without the occupants of the floor being aware of the danger.
Contrary to popular belief, fiber optics are not completely immune. A malicious entity with access to the shaft can use appropriate equipment to eavesdrop on signals without damaging the fiber itself, collecting critical information. Just like the arrow that struck Achilles' heel, a simple breach of the communication shaft can lead to data theft, system outages, and overall significant damage.
Currently, the situation in many office buildings is far from satisfactory regarding the security of the communication shafts. In practice, most shafts remain open, generally unlocked and lacking adequate protection, making them a security vulnerability and highly susceptible to anyone wishing to access them. Part of the challenge arises from the fact that multiple entities operate in buildings providing infrastructure services such as electricity, communication, internet, etc., each requiring access to the shafts for installation, maintenance, and upgrades.
Due to insufficient oversight and enforcement of access to the shafts, a situation has emerged where anyone with access can become a real threat. Instead of controlled and monitored access, anyone could use this access to eavesdrop on fibers, violate tenant privacy, extract sensitive information, and harm the company.
Together with Gil and Itai, our partners, we have researched and delved deeply over the past few years into how to turn your communication shaft from a soft underbelly into a point of strength!
In the next post, we will unveil surprising solutions that will provide an additional layer of protection for your shaft, keeping intruders out while also offering economic benefits.
