As a Principal in Avison Young’s Raleigh office, Banks focuses on business development and retail investments for Avison Young’s clients. From retail leasing and tenant retention, to acquisitions and dispositions, Banks is responsible for leasing and managing a retail portfolio consisting of more than 3.5 million square feet.

Banks is a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Triangle Commercial Association of Realtors (TCAR) where he has served on the board. He brings more than 26 years of commercial real estate experience to Avison Young.

With expertise in large retail portfolios, Banks has represented a variety of interests, from smaller landlord entities to major retail developers as well as institutional clients such as Sun Life, DDR, Inland, Simon and Principal. His vast retail real estate knowledge includes grocery-anchored shopping centers, power centers and smaller service-oriented centers throughout the Carolinas. Additionally, Banks has been heavily involved in ground up development and leasing of retail properties.

Prior to Avison Young, Banks founded Hunter & Associates. He then spent more than 26 years building the company into a full service commercial real estate firm specializing in the management, leasing and sale of commercial properties, with a focus on retail properties. In March 2017, Hunter & Associates was acquired by Avison Young.

Early in his career, one of Bank’s major projects involved the management and sales of the converted Cameron Village Condominiums. Banks sold over 150 condominiums on behalf of developer York Construction Company. Soon after, Banks began an eight-year relationship working with Dave Brady of Lincoln Developers (now BPG Properties).
